The James W. Miller Learning Resources Center (library) at St. Cloud State University provides computer resources for area community members. St. Cloud State requires community patrons to complete a user application to receive a Community Patron UserID before using the computers in the Miller Center.

Policies regarding children (minors), noise and behavior, food and drink, as well as all other Miller Center policies, apply to community patrons.

Quick Tip

Expiration and Removal
All Community Patron UserIDs expire twice a year, on June 30 and December 31, regardless of the date the UserID is obtained. Existing UserIDs may be renewed no sooner than one week prior to the expiration date. Expired UserIDs that are not renewed will be deleted after six months.

Obtaining a Community Patron UserID

  • Go to the Miller Center 2nd Floor East General Access Lab consultant desk
  • Bring a valid passport or state-issued photo ID
  • Fill out a request form
  • Read and sign a community patron use policy
  • If you are a minor (under 18 years of age), you must have your parent or legal guardian present to get your UserID

Computing Services Provided

The computers in the James W. Miller Learning Resources Center provide Community Patrons with access to the following software:

  • Internet Explorer and all necessary plugins
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, OneNote, Groove and InfoPath)

Community patrons also have access to the LR&TS electronic resources provided on the library’s Web page.

Software availability is limited by existing contracts with respective software vendors. This service does not include St. Cloud State University-provided e-mail and file storage, customized desktop or program settings, or access to the campus network and Internet through a personal laptop.

Note: Community Patron accounts are not allowed access to MC 102, MC 125 or Macintosh computers in the library.

Quick Tip

Community Patron Access Limits
To retain SCSU students' priority for access to campus computing resources, the Miller Center has implemented a policy of computer access limits for community patrons. The limits are as follows:

  • Daily: 4 hours
  • Weekly: 12 hours
(A week is defined as Sunday through Saturday)

Community patrons wishing to extend these limits may petition the Dean of Learning Resources & Technology Services.
