Macintosh HuskyPrint Installation for
ResNet, Wired Access Plug-in and
Wireless Users
To use the campus HuskyPrint system on ResNet, or to use your laptop to
print from a campus wired access plug-in (open data jack) or wireless connection,
you must first install printing.
Requirements
Installing printing requires that you:
- Have successfully installed, configured,
and registered your computer for HuskyNet or ResNet
- Are currently on campus
and active on the network
- Know your HuskyNetID (username) and password
- Have Macintosh OS X 10.2 or later
Instructions
Step 1: Install the Popup application
- Download the file Popup.dmg.
- Double-click the .dmg file to create a new disk
image in Finder. This disk contains the Popup installer, Popup.pkg.
- Double-click the installer to run it.
You might have to authenticate yourself as an administrator for your
computer. If so, click the lock icon and type in an administrator username
and password. Select a destination volume (you will only be able to select
the startup volume). Click <Install> (or <Upgrade>). The
installer will automatically install the Popup application.
When the installer is finished the Popup Setup Assistant is launched
automatically. For the Server Address, type 199.17.25.141 and click the <Continue> button.
By default the Popup application will be enabled and will start automatically
when you login to your computer. Click the <Continue> button again
to see a summary of configuration values. Click the <Done> button
to finish.
Step 2: Install an SCSU printer
- Open the Print Center or
Printer Setup Utility application in Applications/Utilities.
If your are using Mac OS X 10.4, hold down the <Option> key on
the keyboard and press the <More Printers> button on screen.
If you are using Mac OS X 10.2 or 10.3, hold down the <Option> key
on the keyboard and press the <Add> button on screen.
- From the
dropdown list at the top of the window, choose "Advanced".
Choose "Pharos Print Server" from the "Device" dropdown
list.
- Enter a "Device Name" - this can
be anything but should be something that describes the printer you wish
to print to. The "Device
URI" should be the following format:
- popup://199.17.25.141/DeviceURI
Replace DeviceURI
with the queue name of the desired printer. Refer to the list of HuskyNet
print queues to locate queues.
- Select a printer model from the popup menu, or leave it with the
default of "Generic". Click the <Add> button to close
the dialog, then quit Print Center.
Printing Information
When you are printing to a HuskyPrint
printer, you will see a "popup" application
appear on the screen. Supply your HuskyNetID (username). Make sure you
supply your HuskyNetID so you are able to release your print jobs at
the release stations.
NOTE: If Pop-ups do not pop-up when printing, your
local firewall might prevent Pharos Pop-up to be allowed through the
firewall. To make sure it is allowed, go to Apple menu, System
Preferences,
and Sharing. Under the Firewall tab, click the New button (next to Allow.)
