Wireless Configuration - Handheld Devices

Palm OS and Windows CE (PocketPC 2003)

Update Hand-held devices (January, 2006)

All hand-held devices now require a VPN client to access HuskyNet wireless. If you previously had a hand-held device configured by the HelpDesk (without a VPN client), it will no longer work until a VPN client is installed. Through a pilot program, SCSU has purchased a limited quantity of VPN Clients for use by students and employees with Palm OS or Windows CE devices. Licenses can be obtained from the HelpDesk (located in Miller Center B43 (library basement)). The pilot program licenses will be valid for one fiscal year (July 1st through June 30th). See the information below for your device.

Hand-held devices with Palm OS

The preferred solution for PalmOS 5 users is the Mergic VPN Client http://www.mergic.com. This client has been tested and found to work on SCSU’s Wireless network. Through a pilot program, SCSU has purchased 25 employee licenses and 25 student licenses available free of charge on a first-come first-serve basis. Available licenses can be obtained from the HelpDesk (located in Miller Center B43 (library basement)). The pilot program licenses will be valid for one fiscal year (July 1st through June 30th). Go to the HelpDesk to obtain the software and a license for your Mergic VPN client.

Hand-held devices with Windows CE (PocketPC 2003)

The preferred solution for Windows CE (PocketPC 2003) users is the Apani VPN Client http://www.apani.com. This client has been tested and found to work on SCSU’s Wireless network. As part of a pilot program, SCSU has purchased 50 employee licenses and 50 student licenses available free of charge on a first-come first-serve basis. Available licenses can be obtained from the HelpDesk (located in Miller Center B43 (library basement)) are valid for one fiscal year (July 1st through June 30th). Download the http://www.apani.com client for Cisco VPN 3000 and install it on your Windows CE (PocketPC 2003) device. After you have installed the client software, go to the HelpDesk to obtain a license for your Apani VPN client.

NOTE: Windows CE 5.0 is currently not supported by the Apani client. Until such time that an Apani client is available, Windows CE 5.0 users may wish to try the client from BlueFire. A trial version can be downloaded or a licensed version may be purchased from www.bluefiresecurity.com. After installing the trial or purchased version, go to the HelpDesk to have the client configured.
