Wireless Configuration with VPN for Mac OS X

Follow these instructions to configure your laptop for use on the SCSU wireless network.

Requirements

In order to configure for and use wireless services provided by SCSU, you must:

  • Be on campus at SCSU
  • Be a current student, faculty, or staff member at SCSU
  • Have a valid HuskyNetID.
  • Have Mac OS X 10.2 or greater
  • AirPort Software 2.0 or greater
  • Have installed and configured a 802.11b or 802.11g compatible wireless network card or have 802.11b or 802.11g capabilities built-in to your laptop or hand-held device. A 802.11a wireless card will only work in Benton, Stearns, Mitchell, Shoemaker, Sherburne, Holes and Hill-Case residence halls.

Connecting with Macintosh OS X

SCSU uses VPN software to encrypt traffic and authenticate Macintosh users to the wireless network.

Configuring Macintosh OS X

The instructions below are based on Mac OS X 10.4. Instructions will vary depending on the version and configuration of Mac OS X.

STEP 1: Locate the icon for your AirPort connection in the upper right corner of your screen. Click the icon and make sure HuskyNet Wireless VPN is selected with a checkmark.

STEP 2: Open the Applications folder and run the Internet Connect program.

 

STEP 3: Go to the File menu of the Internet Connect program and select New VPN Connection

STEP 4: Choose the PPTP radio button at this screen and click Continue.

STEP 5: The Server address should be wirelessvpn.stcloudstate.edu. Type your HuskyNetID and password. Click the Connect button. You should now have an Internet connection.

HuskyNet Wireless VPN Configuration File

  1. Download the preconfigured VPN file
  2. Double click the downloaded VPN file
  3. You should see the following:
    1. Select "VPN" and click "OK"
  4. You will need to enter your Username (HuskyNet ID) and password.
  5. When closing Internet Connect you will be asked to save the configuration
    1. Give it a name and save.

Printing Using HuskyNet Wireless

Printing is available for users of the wireless network. The printing system (called HuskyPrint) is the same system that is used in all open campus labs and a number of other campus technology locations. Every student at SCSU has a quota (200 black and white pages) that they can print without charge each semester.
