Wireless Configuration with
WPA
for Windows XP SP2
Follow these instructions to configure your laptop for use on the SCSU wireless
network via WPA (Wireless Protected Access.)
Requirements
In order to configure for and use wireless services provided by SCSU, you
must:
- Be on campus at SCSU
- Be a current student, faculty, or staff member at SCSU
- Have a valid HuskyNetID and password
- Windows XP with Service Pack 2
- Have installed and configured a 802.11b or 802.11g compatible wireless
network card or have 802.11b or 802.11g capabilities built-in to your computer.
Note: Not all wireless adapters are guaranteed to work with this
method.
Configuration Instructions
Follow the instructions below to configure you laptop to connect to the
HuskyNet Wireless network via WPA.
- Open the Start Menu and click on the Control
Panel. Double-click Network and Internet Connections and
then Network Connections.
- In the list that appears, you should see an icon labled Wireless
Network Connection or something similar. Right-click on it and
select Properties.

- In the window that opens you will see several tabs across the top. Click
on the Wireless Networks tab.
- Make sure the check box labeled, Use Windows to configure my
wireless network settings, is checked.

- In the Preferred Networks section, remove any networks
with "HuskyNet Wireless" in the name.
- Click on the Add... button; another window will open.
In the Association tab make sure the Network
name (SSID) is HuskyNet Wireless WPA. (This
must be typed exactly as shown with the same capitalization and spacing.)

- Set Network Authentication to WPA and Data
encryption to TKIP.
- Click on the Authentication tab. Make sure Enable
IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network is checked. For
EAP type, select Protected EAP (PEAP) and then click
on the Properties button.

- In the window that opens make sure Validate server certificate is
checked.

- From the Trusted Root Certification Authorities list,
make sure Entrust.net Secure Server Certification Authority is
checked.
- Choose Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2) for the Authentication
Method. Make sure the box labeled Enable Fast Reconnect is
checked. Click on the Configure... button.
- In the window that opens, uncheck the box labeled Automatically
use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any).

- Click the OK button in all open windows to save the
configuration.
Authenticating to the HuskyNet Wireless WPA Network
If the settings are configured correctly you should connect automatically
to the HuskyNet Wireless WPA network.
- In the lower right corner of your display, you should see a balloon message
with the text, Click here to select a certificate or other credentials
for connection to the network. If you do not see the balloon,
restart your computer and wait a minute or two.

- Click on that balloon message. You should see a window open prompting
you for your username, password, and domain. Use your HuskyNetID and password,
and type STCLOUDSTATE for the Logon domain.

- Click OK to logon and begin using the wireless network.
