Purpose

This policy is to establish the terms and conditions under which laptop computers are made available to SCSU students from the Circulation Desk in the Miller Center.

Policy

Laptops are available for check out only by SCSU students registered for the current semester. Students may check out laptops on a first-come first-serve basis or by advance reservation. Students may only have one laptop reserved or checked out at a time. There are no renewals for the laptops. LR&TS reserves the right to charge the student for any damages to the laptop while it is checked out in that student's name. Students are required to agree, in writing, to the above terms and conditions prior to check out by completing the Student Laptop Checkout Policy Notification Form and a Student Laptop Checklist Form (Mac or PC).

LR&TS reserves the right to refuse check out for any reason including, but not limited to, abuse of check out privileges, current outstanding fines, enrollment status, etc. Late returns will be considered abuse of laptop privileges, and may result in the suspension of HuskyNet privileges, and temporary or permanent suspension of laptop checkout privileges.
Procedures:

Advance reservations for these laptops must be made in person at the Circulation Desk in the Miller Center . Both Windows and Macintosh laptops are available, but students may reserve or check out only one computer at a time. The laptop must be picked up between 7:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on the day for which it is reserved; if the reserved laptop is not picked up by 2:00 p.m., it will become available for check out by other students.

Before checking out the laptop, the student is required to verify and sign a Student Laptop Checklist Policy Notification form (Mac or PC) that states that all equipment is identified and included, and that the laptop is in working condition. The student is also required to log into the laptop at the time of checkout with their HuskyNetID and password to apply appropriate settings. The student may use the laptop both on and off-campus.

All laptops must be returned to the Circulation Desk no later than 5:00 p.m. on the due date, unless otherwise specified on the checkout form. Due dates are set only for days that the library is open. If the laptop has not been returned by the due date, late fees will be incurred at the rate of $10.00 per day. After 5 days past the due date, the responsible party will be billed for replacement of the laptop.

Laptops should be returned to the Circulation Desk in the same condition as when checked out. It is the responsibility of LR&TS to examine the laptop when it is returned and note its physical and operating condition.
