Running Windows Update
Following is a step-by-step guide for running Windows Update for your computer:
- Open Internet Explorer
- Go to “Tools” > “Windows Update” from
the Internet Explorer menu at the top
- Once the site opens, click on “Scan
for updates”
- Allow the scan to complete. If you have one or more critical
updates available, you need to install these items now.
- Click the “Critical
Updates” link. You will be prompted to
select one or more updates for your computer. Choose the updates (by default
they are all selected) and click the “Review and Install Updates” link
at the top of the screen.
You will reach a final confirmation screen. Click the “Install Now” button.
- Allow
the updates to install
- Reboot your computer if requested. Your updates might
not be complete until your computer has been restarted.
You should run Windows Update at least once every month
to check for critical updates. To have this process automatically scheduled, please see the Scheduling
Automatic Updates at Home page.
