Scheduling Automatic Updates at Home

for Windows Vista

If you use Windows Vista, you can schedule automatic downloads and even installation of critical updates. This ensures your computer is always up to date and does not require you to remember to run windows update manually.

To configure a schedule for Automatic Updates using Windows Vista:

  1. From the Start Menu click on the Control Panel.

  2. Click on the Security link in the Control Panel.

  3. Click on the Turn automatic updates on or off link under Windows Update.

  4. Ensure that Install updates automatically is checked. Note: Your computer must always be turned on at the time specified to ensure that updates are happening.

When critical updates are detected, Automatic Updates automatically downloads these updates in the background while you are connected to the Internet. After the download is complete, Automatic Updates waits until the scheduled day and time to install the updates.
