Desktop Messaging
What is it?
Desktop Messaging is a technology that enables
you to access both your voice mail messages and your e-mail messages from
within Outlook for Windows. You
may listen to, reply to and forward voice mail messages that you receive.
With the use of a microphone or a telephone, you may also record voice mail
messages and send them to other Desktop Messaging users on campus.
What do I need to use it?
You need to be using a Windows-based computer and Outlook e-mail. You
need to have a voice mail account. Your computer should have a sound
card and speakers, or a telephone headset, or at least a telephone near the
computer.
How can I get Desktop Messaging installed?
You may request
Desktop Messaging by using the Phone
Chargeback/Desktop Messaging (pdf) form. There is an initial, one-time
licensing cost of $60.00 per voice mail account. A campus technician
will need to install the software on your computer.
How do I learn to use it?
The learning curve is short. Accessing your voice mail via
your computer is very similar to accessing your e-mail, except that you listen
to, rather than read, your messages.
